Objective: to analyse disc displacement in the temporomandibular joint. Method: Systematic review. Results: 15 scientific articles were reviewed. Conclusion: Disc displacement in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex condition that can significantly affect jaw function and patients' quality of life. Advances in diagnostic techniques, such as MRI and high-resolution ultrasound, have improved the accuracy of disc displacement assessment, allowing for better treatment planning. Understanding associated factors, such as condylar position, occlusion and the impact of systemic conditions, is essential to comprehensively address this pathology. Therapeutic approaches include conservative interventions, such as repositioning devices, and innovative techniques, such as dry needling, for myofascial pain management, as well as surgical options when necessary.
