The objective of this study is to analyse the role played by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the defence of human rights, especially in situations marked by armed conflict and high levels of impunity. A qualitative, descriptive and analytical approach was adopted. Data collection was based on four categories of sources: regulatory (the 1998 Rome Statute, official ICC reports, and United Nations resolutions), emblematic cases (Omar al-Bashir of Sudan, Thomas Lubanga of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Joseph Kony of Uganda), academic literature specialising in international criminal law, and testimonies documented by organisations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. The techniques applied included systematic document analysis to identify patterns in the ICC's actions, comparative case analysis to determine variables of success or failure, and historical and political contextualisation of the factors that condition institutional effectiveness.
