Comparison of fetal biometry in relation to birth weight at term [Comparación de la biometría fetal en relación con el peso a recién nacido a término]

Objective: To compare fetal biometry with birth weight in term infants. Method: Systematic review of 16 articles. Results and conclusion: Sixteen studies were analysed, showing a significant correlation between fetal abdominal circumference and neonatal weight (r=0.68-0.89). Abdominal circumference showed predictive capacity comparable to estimated fetal weight for identifying growth abnormalities. Maternal factors such as pre-pregnancy nutritional status modified this relationship. Abdominal circumference is a reliable predictor of neonatal weight, allowing for the timely identification of intrauterine growth abnormalities. Its systematic implementation would optimise perinatal outcomes in resource-limited settings.
