Abstract

Objective: to analyze conventional and rotary techniques in the preparation of dental canals. Method: systematic population-based review of 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: The studies reviewed show that rotary techniques are more effective than manual techniques in the cleaning and preparation of root canals, since they offer greater precision, control and capacity to eliminate microorganisms such as Enterococcus faecalis and the smear layer. These techniques allow better preservation of the tooth structure, reduce the expulsion of debris towards the apex and speed up the working time, especially when combined with ultrasonic irrigation or GentleWave.
