In Ecuador, this phenomenon has generated a significant debate on its regulation, control and penalties applicable in case of misuse. The objective of this research is to analyze the use of cryptocurrency in the traditional market and its sanctions in Ecuador. It was developed through a documentary review. In comparative terms, Ecuador lags behind other countries in the region that have adopted more flexible and progressive approaches to cryptocurrencies. While countries such as Brazil and Argentina have implemented regulations that seek to balance innovation with security, in Ecuador the restrictive stance could limit its ability to attract foreign investment and foster financial innovation. This raises the need to review the current regulatory framework and consider the experience of other countries as a reference to design more effective public policies.
