Marsupialization of odontogenic keratocyst in mandibular body: case report [Marsupialización de queratoquiste odontogénico en cuerpo mandibular: reporte de caso]

Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of marsupialization as conservative treatment prior to surgical enucleation in mandibular odontogenic keratocyst. Method: Descriptive case study in a 21-year-old male patient with a 5x2cm keratocyst in the right mandibular body. Marsupialization with vesical probe was performed for five months, evaluating evolution through computed tomography. Results: After five months, absence of vestibular cortical expansion, significant reduction of cystic size to 1.3cm and progressive bone regeneration were observed. The technique facilitated favorable histological changes and decreased subsequent surgical aggressiveness. Conclusions: Marsupialization demonstrated effectiveness as initial conservative treatment, reducing lesion dimensions and minimizing morbidity, constituting a viable therapeutic alternative for extensive keratocysts in young patients before definitive enucleation.
