Management of dental impression disinfection in SARS-COV2 times [Manejo de la desinfección de impresiones dentales en tiempos de SARS-COV2]

Abstract

Objective: To identify disinfection methods for dental impressions during SARS-CoV2 times and COVID-19 disease. Method: A descriptive bibliographic review was conducted through meticulous search of verified scientific articles, protocols and validated information compilation from the last five years in specialized databases. Results: Chemical solutions use constitutes the first choice method, highlighting 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and 2% glutaraldehyde. Alternative methods include steam autoclave, electrolyzed oxidizing water, ozone, microwave irradiation and ultraviolet radiation, all dependent on the impression material used. Conclusions: Studies demonstrate that certain methods produce changes in dental impressions physical properties. No research exists determining the most effective method specifically for COVID-19, therefore each professional must select the most appropriate protocol.
