Abstract

Objective: To analyse the interaction between Toxoplasma gondii and HIV during pregnancy. Method: systematic review of 20 documents. Results and conclusion: Coinfection with toxoplasmosis and HIV during pregnancy is a complex clinical challenge that goes beyond simple immunosuppression, involving specific molecular mechanisms that facilitate parasite reactivation and significantly increase the risk of vertical transmission with devastating consequences for foetal development. The convergence of immunological factors specific to pregnancy, HIV-induced immunodeficiency, and the intrinsic virulence of Toxoplasma gondii requires a comprehensive approach that combines preconception preventive strategies, specific diagnostic protocols incorporating advanced molecular techniques, and treatments aimed at interrupting the pathogenic interaction between the two pathogens.
