Abstract

Objective: to analyse female genital mutilation. Method: Systematic review. Results and conclusion: The eradication of female genital mutilation (FGM) represents an opportunity to significantly improve the health and well-being of millions of women and girls around the world. From a medical perspective, it is possible to address this problem through preventive strategies based on community education, cultural awareness and specialised training for health professionals.
