Abstract

Objective: to analyse the risk factors for postpartum depression. Method: Systematic review. Results and conclusion: Among the biological factors, abrupt hormonal changes after childbirth, a history of psychiatric disorders and obstetric complications such as caesarean deliveries stand out, while in the psychological sphere, a history of depression or anxiety, the stress associated with caring for the newborn and the perception of inadequacy in the maternal role are key determinants. On the other hand, social factors such as a lack of family support, economic difficulties and cultural expectations about motherhood also contribute significantly to the development of this disorder.
