Objective: to analyse the effects of white coat hypertension in older adults. Method: systematic review of 16 articles. Results and conclusion: WCH affects approximately 30-40% of older adults with high blood pressure readings in the doctor's office. It is associated with greater arterial stiffness, increased cardiovascular risk and cerebrovascular events compared to normotensive individuals. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is essential for diagnosis. Psychological factors, such as anxiety about the healthcare environment, play a decisive role in its development.
