Inflammatory pelvic disease. Clinical case [Enfermedad pélvica inflamatoria. Caso clínico]

Objective: to study pelvic inflammatory disease from a clinical case. Method: clinical case. Results and Conclusion: The clinical case presented corresponds to a 24-year-old female patient with a clinical picture characteristic of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), manifested by colicky pelvic pain of 8/10 intensity, foul-smelling leucorrhoea, fever, dysuria, bladder tenesmus and pruritus, with exacerbation of symptoms in the last week. On physical examination, there was evidence of pain on palpation in the hypogastrium and left iliac fossa, a positive Blumberg's sign, pain on cervical mobilisation and bulging in the Douglas pouch. Complementary studies showed leukocytosis (15,500 cells/μL), elevated C-reactive protein (50 mg/L) and free fluid in the pouch of Douglas on ultrasound.
