Knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases among secondary school students [Conocimiento de enfermedades de transmisión sexual en adolescentes estudiantes de bachillerato]

Objective: to evaluate the level of knowledge about STDs among high school students. Method: descriptive observational in 123 students. Results: 44.37% of those surveyed said they had knowledge about HIV/AIDS, while 35.49% indicated that they did not know examples of sexually transmitted diseases. Conclusion: The present study shows insufficient knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among adolescent high school students, particularly in relation to symptoms and preventive measures, such as the use of condoms, which increases their vulnerability to these pathologies. Although parents and teachers are the main sources of information, a considerable percentage of students obtain knowledge through friends and other informal sources, which indicates the need to strengthen structured sex education in schools.
