Abstract

Objective: to analyse the lesions caused by UV radiation in urban shopkeepers. Method: Systematic review of 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Injuries induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation in urban shopkeepers constitute a significant public health problem, notably sunburn, photoaging, actinic keratosis and skin neoplasms such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. These pathologies are the result of physiopathological mechanisms such as direct DNA damage, somatic mutations, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, derived from chronic and cumulative exposure to UV radiation.
