Maternal complications in patients with preeclampsia treated at El Ángel Basic Hospital [Complicaciones maternas en pacientes con preeclampsia atendidas en el Hospital Básico El Ángel]

Objective: To determine maternal complications derived from preeclampsia in patients treated at El Ángel Basic Hospital during 2021-2023. Method: Quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental cross-sectional study. Forty-nine clinical records of pregnant women with preeclampsia were analyzed through documentary analysis. Analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive methods were used to examine demographic, clinical variables and maternal-fetal complications. Results: The average age was 30.6 years, with higher incidence between 25-30 years (59.2%). One hundred percent developed eclampsia, 75.5% presented placental abruption and 2% renal insufficiency. The average gestational age was 33.5 weeks. Thirty point six percent required specialized hospital referral. All newborns presented compromised fetal well-being. Conclusions: Preeclampsia generates serious maternal complications, with eclampsia and placental abruption being the most frequent. Early detection and specialized management are fundamental to reduce maternal-perinatal morbidity and mortality.
