Abstract

Objective: to analyse the role of nurses in palliative care for patients with spinal muscular atrophy. Method: Systematic review of 15 scientific articles. Results and conclusion: The available scientific evidence confirms, without a doubt, the fundamental and irreplaceable role of nurses in palliative care for patients with SMA. Their interventions cover multiple aspects, from the most technical (such as respiratory and nutritional management), to the psychosocial (family support) and ethical (active participation in complex decisions). Likewise, the results obtained clearly suggest that nursing specialisation in neuromuscular diseases significantly improves the quality of life of both patients and their families.
