Game-Based Learning (GBL) has gained relevance in recent years as an innovative teaching methodology. This article aims to analyse Game-Based Learning (GBL) in the development of critical thinking in students. A systematic review was adopted, 17 studies were selected for inclusion. Game-Based Learning (GBL) is positioned as an effective pedagogical strategy to develop critical thinking in university education, by fostering advanced cognitive skills such as analysis, synthesis and evaluation. However, its effectiveness depends on a number of contextual factors, including students' technological literacy, teacher training and access to appropriate technological infrastructures.
