Objective: To analyse the efficacy of self-ligating brackets vs. conventional brackets in reducing friction during orthodontic space closure. Method: Systematic review. Results: 15 scientific articles were reviewed. Conclusion: Self-ligating brackets have been shown to be an effective option for reducing friction during orthodontic space closure, thus improving the efficiency and predictability of treatment compared to conventional systems. However, their effectiveness depends on multiple factors, such as the orthodontic technique used, the design of the bracket and the condition of the material. The combination of self-ligating brackets with complementary techniques, such as the use of mini-implants and micro-osteoperforation, has shown promising results in optimising tooth movement control.
