Violence by municipal agents against street vendors [Violencia ejercida por agentes municipales en contra de vendedores ambulantes]

Street commerce constitutes an essential economic activity for millions of people in Latin America, especially for those who face conditions of poverty, social exclusion and lack of access to formal employment. The objective of this research is to analyze the violence exercised by municipal agents against street vendors. The analysis was based on a documentary review, 12 articles were selected. The violence exercised by municipal agents against street vendors in Latin America is a structural problem that reflects deep social, economic and legal inequalities. Regulations designed to regulate the use of public space tend to prioritize the interests of formal sectors and urban elites, leaving informal workers in a situation of vulnerability and criminalization. This problem is aggravated by dynamics of institutional discrimination that affect groups such as women, youth and indigenous people, who face specific forms of violence and exclusion.
